| Samuel Ornitz (November 15, 1890 – March 10, 1957) was an American screenwriter who was one of the "Hollywood Ten" who were blacklisted by the Hollywood movie studio bosses during the era of McCarthyism. Born in New York City, New York to a Jewish family, Ornitz first participated in the writing of a Hollywood motion picture in 1929. Between then and 1945 he wrote or co-wrote another twenty-nine screenplays. In 1933, he joined with Lester Cole and John Howard Lawson to establish the Writers' Guild of America. Samuel Ornitz died in 1957 in Woodland Hills, California.
