| Snatch is a 2000 film by British writer-director Guy Ritchie. It features an ensemble cast including Dennis Farina, Jason Flemyng, Adam Fogerty, Alan Ford, Stephen Graham, Brad Pitt, Benicio Del Toro, Vinnie Jones, Rade Šerbedžija and Jason Statham. Many of the cast members also appeared in Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. Besides the cast, the films share many of the same ideas and motifs while using separate characters and storylines. PlotThe plot revolves around a very valuable 86 carat (17.2 g) diamond, stolen by Frankie Four-Fingers (Del Toro) in Antwerp and brought to London, where he and the diamond fall afoul of local thieves and underworld figures. The film is characterised by Ritchie's usual assortment of colourful characters, especially the "pikey" (Irish Traveller) Mickey (Pitt), Uzbekistani ex-KGB agent and gangster Boris the Blade (or Boris the Bullet-Dodger) (Šerbedžija), and Bullet-Tooth Tony (Jones), who can "find you Moses in the burning bush if you pay him". The protagonist (and very occasional narrator) of the film is Turkish (Statham), an unlicensed boxing promoter who finds himself in debt to local crime boss Brick Top Polford (Ford) when his only fighter, Gorgeous George (Fogerty) is injured in a fight with Mickey over a dodgy caravan Turkish's partner, Tommy (Graham), had bought. Also involved are Sol (Lennie James) and Vincent (Robbie Gee), two fences hired by Boris the Blade to rob a bookie's while Frankie Four-Fingers is placing a bet, on the understanding that they will get the take and he will get the contents of the case (the diamond, that is) which Frankie carries with him. Since the robbery goes horribly wrong and the bookie's is owned by Brick Top, Sol and Vincent are placed in a very difficult position themselves. In a humorous twist, Vincent, Sol, and Tyronne steal the diamond from Bullet tooth Tony after he pulls his Desert Eagle .50 (a very large semi automatic handgun) on their small "replicas." They hide in their base, only to be shortly found by Avi and Tony. The trio claim the dog ate the jewel, and whilst Tony, ordered to "open it up," is trying to catch the dog, Sol pulls the diamond from his pants and presents it to Avi, only for it to be eaten by the dog. Avi grabs Tony's Desert Eagle, and fails to shoot the dog, but accidentally kills Tony with his own weapon. After this, Avi decides to forget the jewel, and says to the airport assistant when he asks if Avi has anything to declare: "Yeah, don't go to England." The dog meanwhile, returns to its original home (the pikies camp site) only to find it deserted. Turkish and Tommy run afoul with the police when they visit the campsite, looking for the pikies, and Turkish saves both of them by noticing the literally million dollar dog and claiming that they were taking it for a walk. The police, satisfied with this, allow them to leave, and when they are leaving, they notice Vincent, Sol, and Tyronne, who greedily came to retrieve the dog and end up caught by police with dead bodies in the trunk. In the final scene (which was also the beginning scene when Turkish started the narrative), both Turkish and Tommy are with a jewel inspector. Turkish explains that because the dog saved them from the police, they kept it, so long as the squeak toy was removed from its stomach. The vet, while removing the toy, found an 86 carat diamond embedded in the stomach. So, in the last scene, Turkish plans to sell the diamond to no other than Avi's cousin, Doug, and Avi himself (who is back in New York City). Detailed summary(continued from top) Gorgeous George is unable to fight so Turkish and Tommy are in debt to Brick Top. Turkish and Tommy are now looking for someone to fill in as a boxer for the unlicensed boxing match. Earlier in the film, Gorgeous George and Tommy visited Mickey's gypsies to buy a caravan. After purchasing the caravan, Gorgeous George and Tommy proceed to leave, but while they were leaving the caravan broke down and the two were enraged. The gypsies refused to give a refund but instead the gypsies agreed that Mickey will fight Gorgeous George for the caravan. Unknown to Tommy and Gorgeous George, however, Mickey is in fact a bare-knuckle boxing champion, who proceeds to knock out Gorgeous George with a single punch. As a result, Gorgeous George is unable to fight.[ Visit the complete Wikipedia entry for Snatch (film) ] Some related entries: The Illusionist | Shrek 2 | Bruno Barreto | Country Boys | Cube series | The Amityville Horror | Nancy Drew: The Mystery in Hollywood Hills | Reflecting Skin | Rolling Thunder | Monster Mash | The Avatar Returns This page is based on the copyrighted Wikipedia article Snatch (film); it is used under the GNU Free Documentation License.
