| Something The Lord Made is a 2004 HBO movie about the working relationship and begrudging mutual respect between Dr. Alfred Blalock and Vivien Thomas. Thomas was Dr. Blalock's African-American lab worker who eventually became his assistant surgeon despite having never attended medical school. Together, they developed the procedures used to treat the Tetralogy of Fallot also known as Blue Baby Syndrome. Dr. Blalock was played by Alan Rickman and Dr. Thomas was played by Mos Def. The title refers to a statement made by Dr. Blalock about Thomas' innate surgical talent being "something the lord made".
