| Songcatcher (dir. Maggie Greenwald, 2000) is a film about a musicologist researching and collecting Appalachian folk music in the mountains of western North Carolina. Although a fictional film, it is based on work of the real folk song collector Dorothy Scarborough (1878–1935). The film's vital soundtrack was co-produced by David Mansfield and T-Bone Burnett, ex-of The Alpha Band.
