Sonnenallee is a 1999
comedy film about life in East Berlin in the 1970s. The movie was directed by Leander Haußmann. The novel by Thomas Brussig, Am kürzeren Ende der Sonnenallee (At the shorter end of Sonnenallee), was not published until 2001.

Synopsis

Michael (or Mischa) is a 17-year-old living in thge GDR in the 1970s. Together with his friends, he is part of a vaguely anarcharstic undergorund resistance movement whose main protests seem to be listening to banned rock music and going to discos. However, the group deteriorates as Mischa follows his lust for Miriam, the blonde bombshell living in the next block and Mario sells out his ideals just to survive.
