Sudden Impact is a 1983 movie in the Dirty Harry series, directed by and starring Clint Eastwood

Plot

Jennifer Spencer (Sondra Locke
) has been brutally raped, and is out for revenge. She kills her attackers one by one. (For unrelated reasons) Harry (Eastwood) is suspended by his superiors and sent to the small town of Sao Paulo (Santa Cruz) outside San Francisco to vacation, but recognizes connections between killings in the small town and a murder he had earlier investigated back in San Francisco.

Trivia

  • Harry is seen wearing Gargoyles sunglasses - the sunglasses were later made famous by Arnold Schwarznegger in The Terminator
    (1984).
  • The movie is probably best remembered for Harry's catch phrase "Go ahead, make my day", often incorrectly attributed to the original movie
    in the franchise. In 2005, it was voted in a poll by the American Film Institute as the sixth most memorable line in cinema history. The line comes from the opening scene of the movie, where Harry goes into a diner for a morning cup of coffee. A hold-up ensues during which the waitress is held at gun-point by the gunman, who holds his gun to her head and threatens to shoot. Instead of backing off, Harry pulls his .44 and aims it straight at the man's head and dares him to shoot, saying in his characteristic rough grumble, "Go ahead, make my day".
  • Ronald Reagan used the line two years later, "I have only one thing to say to the tax increasers: Go ahead, make my day." —March 13, 1985, in a speech threatening to veto legislation raising taxes.
  • Bradford Dillman
    is seen in the film as Captain Briggs; in the previous film, The Enforcer, he portrayed Captain Jerome McKay. It is unknown if McKay and Briggs are distant relatives.
