Sweet Chocolate Brown is a 2005 short film written by Michael Fuller (writer and activist). Released in limited theatres and showings, Sweet Chocolate Brown received critical acclaim for its retro portrayal of the 70's blaxploitation genre controversially depicted by an all-white cast. Shot and filmed on location in Corvallis, Oregon, originally as a film class thesis, Sweet Chocolate Brown took lines and style from multiple classics including Pulp Fiction, Jack Hill's Coffy, and several of Elmore Leonard's screenplays.

Criticisms

John Marler and others have criticized Sweet Chocolate Brown for its use of derogatory remarks concerning black pop-culture including marijuana use, explicit violence, and use of the negro reference. In a critique, Marler commented that Sweet Chocolate Brown, "Set race relations back 30 years in this country."

Fuller has never offered an excuse for the films content. On the DVD commentary, Fuller said, "I don't think driving shitty cars or smoking weed are race-specific issues and I wrote in 'negro' because I thought it would be funny to have a bunch of white guys calling each other 'negroes' and 'jive turkeys'.
