Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: Secrets of the Ooze is the 1991 sequel to the 1990 live action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie. It was followed by Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: Turtles in Time in 1993.SynopsisWhen The Shredder returns and takes back command of the Foot Clan, he has only one plan in mind: to get revenge on the Turtles. And when he learns the secret behind the Turtles' mutation, he becomes more dangerous than ever. This movie sheds some light on the origins of Splinter and the Turtles, introduces Tokka and Rahzar, and presents the ultimate battle between the Turtles and Shredder. PlotFollowing the events of the first movie, The Shredder is apparently dead, killed when he fell from a rooftop and into a garbage truck trash compactor after a battle with Splinter. Since the Foot know the location of their lair, the Turtles have been forced to move into April O'Neil's new apartment while they look for a new home. While they're out looking, the Turtles spot a pizza delivery kid, Keno. Keno discovers a band of robbers and tries to stop them himself (it just so happens he's also trained in martial arts), but when the robbers prove to much for him to handle, the Turtles intervene and help him. Meanwhile, the Foot has been reduced to a fraction of its former size. Master Tatsu, Shredder's right hand man, attempts to take charge, only to be challenged by Shredder himself! Shredder survived his experience in the trash compactor (despite having his head crushed) physically deformed and emotionally twisted, and in rage he declares the Foot's only purpose is now revenge. To this end, he sends one of his Foot Soldiers to trail April, posing as her intern. As April does a special report on the TGRI company, the main scientist discovers that the waste TGRI has hidden has caused a mutation in nearby flowers. The intern notices this as well, and reports it to the Shredder, who dispatches his forces to obtain some of the waste. Meanwhile, Splinter has seen the report on TV, and shows the Turtles and April a familiar artifact: the ooze canister that caused them to mutate in the first place. Splinter reveals another shock when he puts the halves together, revealing the initials TGRI. The Turtles infiltrate TGRI to get the ooze, only to meet Tatsu and the Foot. Despite the Turtles' best efforts, they escape with the last container of ooze and the head scientist, Professor Jordan Perry. Shredder then forces him to create Tokka and Rahzar by mutating a snapping turtle and a wolf. However, the scientist secretly alters the ooze to decrease the intelligence of the mutants, making them infantile in intellect. While the other three Turtles find a new lair in an abandoned subway station, Raphael goes off to pursue the Foot. With the aid of Keno, whom the Turtles have befriended, he infiltrates Foot headquarters, only to be captured by The Shredder. Keno calls on the others, who go to the junkyard to save Raph. After managing to overcome several obstacles, the Turtles find themselves outmatched by Tokka and Rahzar. Barely managing to escape with Professor Perry, the Turtles begin working on an antidote to use on Tokka and Rahzar. They succeed, but find out that they must get the mutants to eat it. The Turtles go to confront the mutants at a nightclub, in full view of everyone. To appease the initial panic, the performer at the club, Vanilla Ice, improvises a rap song "Go Ninja, Go Ninja, Go!". Meanwhile, the Turtles force Tokka and Rahzar to eat the antidote, then shove fire extinguishers in their mouths to keep them from burping it out. It works, as Tokka and Rahzar revert back into normal animals. However, The Shredder uses a vial of ooze to become Super-Shredder and attacks the Turtles. While fighting underneath a dock, The Shredder wrecks the structure, bringing it down on him. The Turtles escape thanks to their amphibious nature. Shredder's hand emerges from the wreckage, but some seconds later it falls down. Shredder seems to be dead. The Turtles return to their new lair, where Splinter asks if they were seen. They deny it, until Splinter lifts up a newspaper with a front page picture of them at the nightclub where they fought Tokka and Rahzar. Splinter makes them do ten flips, reminding them "Go Ninja, Go Ninja, Go!" The screen freezes as they begin the first flip, and Splinter shouts "I made another funny, ha ha ha ha!" Comparisons to the first filmWhile Secret of the Ooze still retains some of the gritty feel of the original film, it is arguably much lighter in comparison, and has a feel more reminiscent of the cartoon series. Part of this is perhaps due to the focus on the "ooze" as a plot element, the two new mutants, and the overall sci-fi feel of the storyline, which leans more in the direction of the original animated series. Another element that has caused this film to be viewed as lighter is the inclusion of the Vanilla Ice song and concert sequence, which many fans have poked fun at over the years. Also, three of the Turtles never use their weapons in the fight scenes. Michaelangelo never touches his nunchakus, Leonardo only uses his katana once to climb onto a ceiling, and Raphael uses one sai to catch a slice of pizza.[ Visit the complete Wikipedia entry for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze ] Some related entries: Legend of Earthsea | The League of Gentlemen | Groove | Big Night | The Medallion | The Iron Petticoat | Speakeasy | Penny Dreadful | Destroy All Monsters | Ellipse Programmé | Workprint This page is based on the copyrighted Wikipedia article Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze; it is used under the GNU Free Documentation License.
