| The Alligator People was a film released by Twentieth Century Fox in Cinemascope in 1959, directed by Roy Del Ruth with a screenplay by Orville H. Hampton. Its plot concerned a scientist who, as a result of a lab experiment involving alligator hormones gone awry, becomes an alligator-human hybrid. The film is set in the American South, one of many monster B-movies released in the era. The Lizard, a Marvel Comics character who first appeared several years later in 1963, has an origin which is nearly identical to the Alligator Man's in the film.
