| The Big Knife is a movie directed by Robert Aldrich and released in 1955. Jack Palance plays a Hollywood A-list actor who refuses to renew his contract, enraging a studio boss (played by Rod Steiger and reputedly based on Harry Cohn). Unbeknownst to Palance, his old boss has knowledge of a very damaging secret about the star. Steiger is willing to do anything to make the actor resign even if that means destroying his own career. Based on a play by Clifford Odets, the film is a ruthless and poignant look at fame and the movie business.
