The Blood of Heroes or Salute of the Jugger is a 1990 Science fiction film, directed by David Webb Peoples. It was made in Australia.

It stars Rutger Hauer, Joan Chen, Vincent D'Onofrio, Anna Karenina and Delroy Lindo.

Plot

A small band of futuristic gladiators, known as the "Juggers", wander the desolate landscape, Journeying from one "dog-town" to another in search of new opponents. Their only hope is to make it to one of the few remaining subterranean cities and be allowed to play in the ultimate game "The League". They compete in the post apocalyptic dog towns to collect dog skulls, which they win when they are the team that places the skull on the stick at the other end of the playing field.

Sallow (Hauer), the team leader, has played in the League of the Seven Cities (all underground now) before, but was thrown out and now finds himself troubled by his past. Kidda (Chen), an ambitious, young peasant girl joins the team after a game in her dog town where she virtually detroys her opposing competition and she and Gar (Vincent D'Onofrio) instills a new desire in Sallow to challenge the league and purge his past.

Little do they realise that this time they are competing for more than just honour and the spoils of victory, this time they are fighting for their very survival. The Game is played a lot harder and meaner in the Seven Cities...
