Movies - The Brother from Another Planet

The Brother from Another Planet is a 1984 film written and directed by John Sayles.

Plot

Joe Morton
stars as "The Brother", an alien who has crash-landed in the middle of Harlem. In every way the alien looks like a Black man, except that his feet have three large toes. The Brother has strange powers but is unable to speak and struggles to express himself and adjust to his new surroundings. In the meanwhile, he is on the run from two other aliens from his home planet who are looking to capture him.

The film is meant to both send-up Hollywood pictures that frequently depict humanoid aliens as white, and to show how the racial questions and problems would be experienced by someone completely foreign to American culture.
