| The Cranes are Flying (Russian: Летят журавли, Letyat zhuravli) is arguably the greatest film to come out of World War II. It was directed by the Georgia-born Soviet director Mikhail Kalatozov in 1957 and starring Aleksey Batalov and Tatiana Samoilova. It was the only Soviet film to win Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival.
