Movies - The General

The General is a movie about Dublin criminal Martin Cahill. It was directed by John Boorman and filmed in 1997 and released in 1998. Brendan Gleeson
played Martin Cahill while Jon Voigt played inspector Ned Kenny. The movie was based on the book by Irish crime journalist, Paul Williams, who is also the crime editor of Ireland's best selling tabloid, The Sunday World.

Criticism

The movie received a large amount of criticism in Ireland, because it portrayed Cahill as a public figure hero, something which he most certainly was not.
