The Last Man on Earth (1924) is an innovative science-fiction cult film, famous for its unusual plot. It was later remade as the semi-musical film It's Great to Be Alive
, and the novel Mr. Adam.

In the futuristic year of 1960, an epidemic known as maleitis has killed every fertile man on Earth. Womankind takes over, and the United States is governed by the First Lady, acting as the president. Meanwhile a young aviatrix, named Gertie (played by Grace Cunard), is flying over the Ozarks, when she spots a plume of smoke rising from the chimney of a cabin. A reclusive hillbilly named Elmer Smith (played by Earl Foxe) is discovered there. A major fight ensues over him when the public hears of it.

This film is a spoof on two events recent to the time of its release; the 1918-1919 Spanish influenza epidemic, and women winning the right to vote (1920).
