The Luck of the Irish is a Disney Channel Original Movie.

Plot

Kyle Johnson (Ryan Merriman) is a very lucky kid. He's the top player on his basketball team, his parents have successful jobs, and everything good seems to happen to him. But things change when his school prepares for Heritage Day, and Kyle gets curious about his own heritage. His parents act real strange, avoiding his questions, or telling excuses. Then, a new potato chip company moves into town, as well as an Irish Heritage festival. Kyle goes to the festival with a friend and has fun dancing to Irish music and watching the show.

But then, the next day, Kyle seems to have the worst luck. Everything bad happens to him, and he seems to be getting shorter. Also his mom's acting strange and suddenly serving up Irish food and speaking with an Irish accent. It isn't until Kyle discovers that the day after that someone has stolen his lucky gold coin, and even weirder stuff happens. His ears become pointed, his hair starts turning orange, and he gets even shorter. Kyle's mom shrinks until she's six inches tall, and the truth finally comes out. Kyle's family is made up of Leprechauns. Kyle is only half leprechaun, since his dad's from Cleveland. It also turns out that the gold coin he wore was the O'Reilly Family Luck, a magic coin, when in the possession of the youngest family member, allows all the leprechauns in the family to pass as normal human beings. But since the coin is gone, the family is down on their luck now, and reverting to their true forms.

Kyle also finds out that he has a 200-year-old grandpa, who's been in a long feud with his mom. But when Kyle, his family, and his friends put their heads together, they decide to chase after an evil leprechaun that has stolen their luck. In the process of getting the coin back, Kyle learns that your past isn't always as important as the present, but it makes you who you are. He also has to make some serious and risky bets with the evil leprechaun, and sometimes it takes more than luck to triumph in the face of adversity.
