| The Meeting Place Cannot Be Changed () is a 1979 Soviet film series (in 5 parts) directed by Stanislav Govorukhin that was a cult film in the USSR, and along with Seventeen Moments of Spring became a source of quotations and even inspiration for songs, as well as the target of jokes. Vladimir Vysotsky starred in the film. It was released in the US as Age of Mercy, the name of the novel on which the film is based. The film involves two parallel investigations and two major characters. The investigations are that of a murder of a young actress, and a hunt for a vicious criminal group that calls itself the Black Cat and seems to almost supernaturally evade police. The major characters are Vladimir Sharapov – an inexperienced, smart but straight by the book, idealistic young cop who's first day "on the job" after being released from active duty as Recon officer starts the movie, and on the other side, his boss Gleb Zheglov (Vysotsky) – a smart, interesting, strong willed cop, who has come to a conclusion that without stepping over the law's lines it is impossible to efficiently put criminals behind bars. He thinks nothing wrong with planting evidence onto a known criminal. The two opposites become friends, but also clash throughout the film. While Sharapov is ostensibly the protagonist, Vysotsky virtually steals the film in every scene he is present.
