| The Monster is a 1925 silent horror directed by Roland West, based on the play by Crane Wilbur. It features Lon Chaney, one of the first horror film stars. Johnny Goodlittle (Johnny Arthur), a clerk for an insurance company and aspiring detective, gets inside an insane asylum while investigating a disappearance. Here, he finds out that Ziska (Lon Chaney), one of the dangerous patients, has taken over the asylum. Now Ziska has caught Betty (Gertrude Olmstead), Johnny's romantic interest, and wants to conduct mad experiments on her.
