Storyline

The Mouse and his son, are two, small wind-up toy mice that are ejected from their safe toy shop home (via the garbage). Outside in the real world they become enslaved by Manny the Rat, and meet various animal characters on a quest of becoming free and independent self-winding toys. Despite being an animated film, the story deals with serious philosopical ideas about freedom, redemption, and the cruelty of life.

Criticism

Many Generation X Americans recall watching the animated film on television in the late 1970s or the early 1980s and being amazed. However, critics panned the film for watering down the philophical themes in the novel.

DVD

The film was re-released on VHS in 1991, but fans are still waiting for a DVD edition to be released.
