| The Prisoner of Second Avenue is an American comedic (somewhat of a black comedy) play that ran on Broadway from November 1971 until September 1973. The play was later made into a movie that was released in 1975. The film version of The Prisoner of Second Avenue stars Jack Lemmon and Anne Bancroft. The play and screenplay for the film were both written by famed playwright Neil Simon. The story revolves around the problems of a middle-aged couple living on Second Avenue on the Upper East Side of New York City, and the action occurs during an intense summer heat wave and a prolonged garbage strike. Peter Falk and Lee Grant starred in the play during its Broadway run. The Prisoner of Second Avenue was nominated for the 1972 Tony Award for Best Play.
