The Shop Around the Corner is a 1940 romantic comedy film starring James Stewart and Margaret Sullavan. The Ernst Lubitsch-helmed film spawned a 1949 musical remake, In the Good Old Summertime and a 1998 remake, You've Got Mail. The film was deemed "culturally significant" by the United States Library of Congress and selected for preservation in the National Film Registry.PlotSet in Budapest, the film is based on the Miklós László play Parfumerie, and is about co-workers Klara (Margaret Sullavan) and Alfred (James Stewart) who hold an intense dislike for each other, while maintaining a secret letter-writing relationship, not realizing who is their secret pen-pal.Cast
