Movies - The Standoff

The Standoff was the last short film produced by independent filmmaker Michael Thomas Dunn
. Dunn would later direct feature films like Alone and Restless
and Vixen. The short film was filmed throughout Orlando, Florida and at various locations at the University of Central Florida. The film is best remembered for its film noir visual style that was a collaboration between Michael Thomas Dunn
and Director of Photography Robin Thompson.

The thriller features an edgy story: One year ago, Detective Fred Randall (portrayed by Michael Thomas Dunn
) found his wife and kids murdered in a secluded salvage yard. Since then, he has spent every minute of his life searching for the their killer. Fred's persistance has not gone unnoticed. Vince Cooper (portrayed by Joe Granato), the criminal responsible for his family's death has grown to admire Fred's obsession. Cooper decides to toy with the young detective and see how far Fred is willing to go.

One evening at the empty police precinct, Detective Randall receives a phone call from Cooper. Vince describes how he enjoyed murdering his family. The two men argue over the phone until the young Detective snaps. When Cooper realizes that Fred has lost his cool, he dares the Detective to re-visit his family's murder scene -- alone. Fred can not resist the opportunity to stop his family's killer. Vince can not resist the opportunity to toy with the cunning Detective. The short film ends with a shocking plot twist (a signature of Dunn's directing).
