The Sum of Us is a 1994 Australian film starring Russell Crowe. The plot evolves around the relationship of Harry Mitchell (Jack Thompson) with his gay son Jeff (Crowe). Harry wants his son to settle son with Mr. Right, as he is looking to find a woman to marry.

Jeff does in fact find a man that he can settle down with, but his boyfriend is not ready to settle down and is shocked that Harry accepts his son for being gay, while his own parents are homophobic.

While Harry finds a woman on a computer dating service, she is shocked to find out that Harry's son is gay and that he "encourages it." Disgusted, she walks away from him, and Harry has a stroke and is thus confinded to a wheel-chair and requires Jeff to take care of him, while trying to convince his boyfriend that they have a future together.
