The Viking (1928) was the first feature-length color film with a soundtrack, but only a music score without dialogue. At the time, the film was considered the finest use of color cinematography to date. The film still survives and remains an impressive example of early color film.Production TechnologyThe sound was provided by an optical Movietone track and the color was printed by Technicolor in their two component Dye Imbibition process. The film was produced and printed by Technicolor, but was distributed by MGM, after being impressed with the technology. As such it carries the MGM lion logo in color. A large amount of footage was shot outdoors, and the film benefits from this.StorylineThe storyline was based on traditional legend concerning the first Viking settlers to reach North America by sea.[ Visit the complete Wikipedia entry for The Viking ] Some related entries: The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything: A Veggie Tales Movie | Regeneration | March of Time: Inside Nazi Germany | I, Robot | Jack & the Beanstalk | My Boyfriend's Back | The Presentators | 1991: The Year Punk Broke | Kure Kure Takora | Down to Earth | The Opposite of Sex This page is based on the copyrighted Wikipedia article The Viking; it is used under the GNU Free Documentation License.
