The Wild Blue Yonder is a science fiction documentary-film by the German director Werner Herzog, released in 2005. It has been presented at the 62nd Venice Film Festival, where it was awarded the FIPRESCI Prize.

The film is about an extraterrestrial (played by Brad Dourif) who came to Earth several years ago from a water planet (The Wild Blue Yonder), after his species exhausted their resources. His narration reveals that the aliens have tried through the years to form a community on our planet, though without great success.

The narrative voice of the alien also introduces a hypothetical sub-plot. This shows a group of astronauts who return to Earth to discover that the planet has become uninhabitable. The causes of the catastrophe are not stated. The crew has therefore to find another planet, and releases a probe from their cargo bay, Galileo. But after initial reports come back, they realise they have been sent on a suicide mission.
