The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (1910) was the first film version of L. Frank Baum's 1900 novel. It was mainly based on the 1902 stage musical.

Dorothy Gale (played by Bebe Daniels) is chased into the cornfield by the mule, Hank. She discovers in the field that the family scarecrow is alive. A tornado appears overhead and takes Dorothy along with the mule, Toto, and the scarecrow to Oz. In Oz, they meet the Tin Woodman, the Cowardly Lion, Eureka the Camel, Glinda the good witch, and Momba (the Wicked Witch of the West). The wicked witch captures them with her army of flying lizards and soldiers. After defeating Momba, they arrive in the Emerald City for the retirement party of the Wizard.

The character played by Imoegene the Cow did not appear in the novel. The cow was used as a replacement for Toto the dog in the stage musical. None of the songs in this movie were used in the 1939 version. The Wonderful Wizard of Oz was later followed by the sequels, The Patchwork Girl of Oz (1914 film), The Magic Cloak of Oz, and His Majesty, the Scarecrow of Oz (all released in 1914).
