They (also known as Wes Craven
Presents: They) is the title of a movie released in 2002. The plot centers on the phenomenon of night terrors and their impact on the lives of adults who experienced them as children.

The film has received a very mixed reaction since its release, but it should also be said that They had a very troubled production with many reshoots by Rick Bota and rewrites by an estimated group of ten people including Joel Soisson and Frank Spotnitz. At least three endings were filmed, but only two are present on the DVD. The bleak theatrical ending was closest to Brendan Hood's original screenplay. With several release date changes and poor test audience ratings, They as it is now is not entirely what Robert Harmon and Brendan Hood intended it to be, but what the producers molded it into.

Plot

They tells the story of a Psychology grad student named Julia (Laura Regan) and an event that turns her life upside down. As a child she experienced horrifying night terrors, but has seemingly overcome the problem. She reunites with a childhood friend, Billy (Jon Abrahams), and he tells her that he believes their night terrors are caused by something otherworldly and warns her to stay out of the dark. Shortly afterward Julia meets two of Billy's friends who slowly begin to believe his claims. Julia's night terrors return and she begins to doubt her perception of the world around her.
