PlotThe story begins with 16th century Spanish sailors beaching their launch on Manzanita beach. They carry a treasure chest up Neahkahnie Mountain, leading a manacled African slave. The treasure is buried and the slave killed. He is laid on top of the ground to "guard" the treasure and frighten away the local Indians.Julie (Suzanne Marie Doyon), a lonely fourteen year old girl, and her family move from California to a beautiful Oregon seaside town, as a last resort after her dad loses his job. Her family has trouble adjusting to their new life and Julie is forgotten and ignored. Julie has a dramatic mystical encounter with a large Roosevelt Elk on the beach. The elk's fur has black handprints on its neck. Its hooves uncover an old Spanish gold coin in the sand. The Elk becomes Julie's silent, watchful guide and protector as she becomes drawn to the legend of the Tillamook Treasure. She seeks the wisdom and guidance of her Grandfather (Max Gail) and his good friend, Standing Elk (Floyd Red Crow Westerman). The men tell Julie the legend of the Spanish treasure and also of an elk, saved from drowning by the slave before his death by the slave who had grasped the exhausted animal as it swam near the Spanish launch. Julie is confused because 400 years later, she is convinced that "her elk" is the same elk. Julie's desire to solve the treasure mystery becomes a passion that leads to further mystery and self-discovery . When she experiences visions of Indians she's frightened. When she tells Grandpa and Standing Elk, the elders realize that she is having a magical experience. She hears the chains of the African slave, hears his voice calling to her, and sees him in the dark. Grandpa and Standing Elk suspect that Julie has been "chosen" to find the treasure and to release the spirit of the slave. They watch and guide her on her quest. In the tense climax, Julie’s courage is tested to the maximum as she places herself in great physical danger in order to complete her quest. Tillamook Treasure is a coming of age story that revolves around self-discovery and personal strength. It is a tale of family and of searching for and finding what is really important in life. Digital cinemaBright Light Studio used the Sony HDW-F900 (High Definition) technology pioneered by Lucasfilm for its Star Wars series. Tillamook Treasure is digital cinema from front to back. The film will be distributed digitally directly to theaters, by-passing the need to go to film. "Filming in high-definition digital and distributing digitally opens the doors of feature film making to low budget independent films", says Executive Producer Richard Doyon. "Digital reduces the cost so that high production values are within the budget of independent filmmakers. We start with the highest quality digital filming, edit digitally, and release to theaters digitally."[ Visit the complete Wikipedia entry for Tillamook Treasure ] Some related entries: Death and the Compass | Cinema of the Czech Republic | Bad Dreams | The League of Gentlemen's Apocalypse | Monterey Pop | Christophe Gans | Virginia Lewis | The Fearless Vampire Killers | The Mummy's Hand | Short Cuts | Vikram Bhatt This page is based on the copyrighted Wikipedia article Tillamook Treasure; it is used under the GNU Free Documentation License.
