Tillsammans (Together) is Swedish director Lukas Moodysson's second full length film. Set in a Stockholm commune called Tillsammans in 1975, it is a wistful satire of liberal values and a bittersweet comedy, with a delightful final resolution that leaves the viewer with a smile on their face.

Plot summary

The Tillsammans commune is a house full of left-wing idealists, headed insofar as they have a leader by the bearded and saintly Göran. At the beginning of the film, we see the commune members debating whether doing the washing-up is bourgeois. Meanwhile, Göran's sister Elisabeth leaves her violent husband Rolf, and is invited by Göran to live at Tillsammans with her two children Eva and Stefan.

The arrival of three new members sets up new tensions in the commune. Lasse still wants his ex-wife Anna, who still lives in the commune but has declared that she is a lesbian. Anna is fascinated by Elisabeth, who is struggling to decide whether leaving Rolf is the right thing to do. Klas, meanwhile, is in love with Lasse, and is trying to convince him that he could be gay too.

Eva and Stefan are mystified by the workings of the commune, but while Stefan joins in by playing 'torture the Pinochet opponent' with Lasse's son Tet, Eva befriends a lonely boy who lives across the street with disapproving parents who watch the goings on at the commune with grave mistrust.
