Actor Kiefer Sutherland makes his directorial debut in the neo-noir film Truth or Consequences, N.M. released in 1997

Raymond Lembecke (Vincent Gallo) is a ex-con on parole who plans the robbery of a drug dealer with his friends Marcus Weans and Curtis Freley (Kiefer Sutherland). In pure noir fashion fatalism hits the boys hard because everything goes wrong during the heist.

As they head out of the city to make their escape they kidnap a couple who own a recreational vehicle. But soon Gordon Jacobson, the male hostage (Kevin Pollak), is emulating his kidnappers and wants to stay involved in the chase.

Ovservations

Reaction to the film was mixed. Critic Jeffrey Lyon of WNBC called he film, " gritty, effective crime drama."
