Movies - Tudor Rose

Tudor Rose is a 1936 British film starring Cedric Hardwicke
and Nova Pilbeam
and directed by Robert Stevenson
. Upon its release in the United States it was given the title Nine Days a Queen. An interesting point is that some young actors who went on to become famous play relatively minor parts: John Mills
plays Guilford Dudley, and John Laurie
plays John Knox.

The film is a dramatization of Lady Jane Grey's short life, from her forced marriage (which she resisted) to her brief reign as monarch of England and finally to her beheading. The film portrays her as an innocent set up for the slaughter while the scheming courtiers and pretenders to the throne barely pay her mind, as they stab each other in the back in their attempts to gain power and influence. It was the second of three film versions of her life.
