| Victor Moritz is a fictional character who appears in the 1931 Universal film version of Mary Shelley's novel, Frankenstein. He was played by John Boles. Victor is the movie representation of Henry Clerval from the novel, and his name is taken from Victor Frankenstein and Justine Moritz. Why this was done is unknown. In the movie, Victor is Henry Frankenstein's best friend. He was secretly in love with Henry's bride, Elizabeth, but respected both her and Henry enough not to do anything rash out of jealousy. Oddly, he is absent from the movie's 1935 sequel, Bride of Frankenstein, and no explanation is given for his disappearance. This is especially strange considering the events of that movie are set immediately after the final windmill scene in Frankenstein.
