What America Needs: From Sea to Shining Sea is a 2003 documentary film movie filmed by Mark Wojahn. It is a sequel to the award winning 1995 film What America Needs: An Interior Expedition, which was produced in conjunction with the progressive film co-op, the New Kinomatagraphic Union.BackgroundIn October 2002, filmmaker Mark Wojahn traveled from New York City to Los Angeles, California via an Amtrak train. He stopped in ten cities along the way and asked over 500 individuals the question "What do you think America needs?". The individuals asked were of different race, age, gender, background, religion, and social class.The film documents many mixed emotions of disappointment and despair as well as strong messages of hope. The film primarily highlights diversity in viewpoints on social issues throughout the United States.
