Chart performance

"What I've Been Looking For" was another success from the film, peaking at #8 on the iTunes Top 100. It was the first song sung by Ashley Tisdale and Lucas Grabeel from the soundtrack to make the Top Ten of iTunes. The song was also another hit from the soundtrack, debuting at #35 on the Billboard Hot 100,probably because of strong downloads and no airplay, which has been a trend with the other songs from the soundtrack, including "Breaking Free" which has peaked at #4 on the Billboard Charts.

Reprise version

The reprise version, also from High School Musical, was sung by Zac Efron and Vanessa Anne Hudgens. But while also a hit from the film, it was not as successful as the original version, with a peak thus far at #19 on the iTunes Chart. It is the first High School Musical number sung by Zac Efron and Vanessa Anne Hudgens as a duet to not make the Top Ten of iTunes (compared to singles Breaking Free and Start of Something New from the same soundtrack). The song debuted at #62 on the Billboard Hot 100, due to strong downloads, and no airplay. The song, once again, was not as successful compared to its original version which debuted in the Top 40.
