Where The Sidewalk Ends (1950) is a classic film noir from 20th Century Fox starring Dana Andrews and Gene Tierney. Like many other films of the genre, it involves a tough cop in a gritty city -- with some location shooting -- gangsters, and a dame. The film was a reunion of Andrews, Tierney, and Preminger who had made Laura together six years earlier. Unlike Laura, Where The Sidewalk Ends is much darker, and the hero is a "bad cop" from the start.
