| Wilde is a 1997 movie about Oscar Wilde, starring Stephen Fry, Jude Law, Vanessa Redgrave, Tom Wilkinson, Jennifer Ehle and Ioan Gruffudd. It is based on biographical notes by Richard Ellmann. The music was composed by Debbie Wiseman, for which she won an Ivor Novello Award. PlotThe film begins in 1882 with Oscar Wilde's visit to Leadville, Colorado during his lecture tour in America. It describes his marriage, his wit, his homosexuality and his popularity, before depicting his downfall caused by his prosecution for gross indecency and his time in prison. Its frankness about Wilde's homosexuality, graphic love scenes, and Jude Law's frequent nudity, has made the film somewhat famous and often controversial. In a rather terrible pun, openly gay actor Stephen Fry is said to have been "born to be Wilde." TriviaThe now popular British actor Orlando Bloom makes a one-line appearance playing a male prostitute outside a train station.[ Visit the complete Wikipedia entry for Wilde (film) ] Some related entries: Max,13 | Daily editor log | Jayme Monjardim | Frogman | Guinea Pig | Roustabout | Night of the Creeps | The Honeymooners | Another Woman | Shaolin Temple | Pinku eiga This page is based on the copyrighted Wikipedia article Wilde (film); it is used under the GNU Free Documentation License.
