| Will Turner, full name William Turner Jr. (Bill and Will are shortened forms of the same name), is a fictional character in the film Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, played by Orlando Bloom. He is a blacksmith working in Port Royal, and in love with Elizabeth Swann. Will is the son and only child of the pirate "Bootstrap Bill" Turner. He bears a great resemblance to his father, both in appearance and in physical ability. Will is an expert blacksmith (although his oft-drunk master tends to get most of the credit) and practices with his blades every day for three hours. He is able to hold his own in combat against other experienced fighters, like Captain Jack Sparrow (though thwarted by the pirate's cheating). Will is captivated by the Governor's beautiful daughter, Miss Elizabeth Swann, but reluctant to reveal his feelings towards her. While Elizabeth is the one unable to breathe in the strings of a corset, Will has self-imposed a "corset" of sorts of what he thinks is proper to restain his love for her. Bootstrap was a crew member on the Black Pearl under Captain Jack Sparrow's command. When the crew mutinied under First Mate Barbossa's leadership, Bootstrap objected to the mutiny and stated that the crew deserved to be cursed. Bootstrap sent away a piece of the Aztec gold to Will so that the crew would remain cursed forever. When Captain Barbossa learned of this, he had Bootstrap tied to a cannon (ironically, by his bootstraps) and thrown overboard. Unfortunately for him, it was afterward that Barbossa learned Turner blood would be necessary to break the Aztec curse on the gold. With Bootstrap Bill lost to the deep, Will is the last remaining source of the Turner blood needed to break the curse. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's ChestBecause, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest has not yet been released, some of the information below is speculative. In the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, Will returns with the rest of the main characters from Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. Will's newest appearance is far more piratical than the clothing worn at the end of the last movie reminiscent of Erol Flynn. Also, in the next film, Will is arrested during his wedding to Elizabeth Swann. Afterwards, he is confronted by Lord Cutler Beckett (Tom Hollander), a man made wealthy by the trade of the East India Company. It has been said that Will becomes darker as a character in this movie.
