Ahmet Okan was born in 1952 in Nicosia. He finished his secondary education in Cyprus and continued his higher education later on in Turkey. But there he got involved in student youth organisations so he had to drop out of school.

He worked later on in Cyprus in political organisations such as Revolutionary Youth Organisation (DGD), and Cumhuriyetci Turk Partisi(CTP) / Republican Turkish Party. He later on worked in various artist organisations such as: Cagdas Sanatcilar Dernegi (Contemporary Artists Association), Turkish Cypriot Journalists Association and Cyprus Turkish Writers Association of Music Artists.

His most famous work of poetry is "Adaliyiz Maviye" (1986). Apart from poetry he also writes lyrics amd he has composed many songs. His work with Acar Akalin, singer and guitarist have become very popular in Cyprus.
