| Albert Mangelsdorff (September 5, 1928 – July 25, 2005) was one of the most accredited and innovative trombonists of modern jazz who became famous for his distinctive technique of playing multiphonics. Mangelsdorff was born in Frankfurt. In contrast to his brother Emil Mangelsdorff who mostly plays in traditional jazz combos, Albert tended to long solistic playing and experimental sounds. He was founder of the United Jazz and Rock Ensemble that existed for more than 25 years.
