Venezuelan pianist, composer, arranger and conductor (born in Valencia, Venezuela. March 12, 1928).

Biography

Romero began his musical studies with his father, Rafael Romero. In 1941 he moved to Caracas and worked as pianist in nocturnal saloons and dance orchestras. In 1949 he traveled to Cuba, and then on to New York. In 1952 he returned to Caracas and he founded his own dance orchestra.

He then signed a contract with RCA Victor to record with a full orchestra what was to be the very successful series of records called "Dinner In…" featuring popular Latin American pieces: Caracas, Buenos Aires, Mexico, Colombia and Rio were the selected places. In 1970, together with drummer Frank Hernandez he established the basis of the “New Wave” rhythm. He lived in London and New York in 1975-1977. In 1978 he founded the Caracas Philharmonic Orchestra.

A prolific composer, he has created a wide range of music, such as Caribbean, Jazz, Venezuelan Waltzes, up to symphonic works of great dimensions. He is one of the most complete musicians born in Venezuela.
