Andrew "Andy" Friedman, (born February 1975, in East Meadow, New York) is an artist/cartoonist/musician currently working in New York City. After graduating from East Meadow High School in 1993, he earned a bachelor's degree from the Rhode Island School of Design.

Friedman became an office assistant at The New Yorker magazine during the summer of 1998. Two years later, he was promoted to Assistant Cartoon Editor. His first drawing assignment from the magazine, a portrait of Hank Williams III, would soon follow. He created many more illustrations for The New Yorker and other publications, along with a brief stint moonlighting as a cartoonist for the magazine, publishing them under the pseudonym Larry Hat.

In the Summer of 2001, Friedman founded City Salvage Records, an independent publishing house and record label. Its first release was Friedman's own "Drawings & Other Failures", a collection of his pencil drawings and Polaroids accompanied by a thirty-page poem called "Drawings" in October, 2001. Soon thereafter, Friedman left his post at the New Yorker to pursue a career as a touring visual artist, while continuing to devote his time off the road to his painting and free-lance illustration.

In October 2004, he wrote music to accompany his various spoken lyrics for a performance at Galapagos Art Space in Brooklyn, NY. Performing his new songs with a band and visual accompaniment, Friedman transformed his "Slideshow Poetry" act (as it came to be known) into a music/art hybrid, paving what he calls "Painting's New Country Highway" in the process.

Friedman's band, recently celebrated the release of their first CD, "Live at the Bowery Poetry Club".
