Musicians - Annesley Malewana

Annesley Malewana is an influential Sri Lankan musician.

Life and career

Malewana was born in Ratnapura in Sri Lanka and attended St. Joseph’s College in Colombo, Sri Lanka. After leaving school, he teamed up with Clarence Wijewardene
and formed the group Moonstones. Beginning with "Mango Nenda" composed by Wijewardene and sung by Malewana, the group dominated the Sinhala charts, before breaking up in the late 1960s.

Malewana teamed up with Wijewardene again in the 1970s and formed the Super Golden Chimes. The group was similiarly successful as the Moonstones and had a string of hits that included "Udarata Niliya", "Sihina Pathum", "Wana Bambaro", and "Satuta Senasuma". The group disbanded in 1978, when Malewana married.

Malewana returned to music in 1988 as a solo artist to more success, and continues to record music to this day.
