| Anton Weidinger was born in Vienna on June 9, 1767 and died there September 20, 1852. In 1799 he joined the Imperial and Royal Court Trumpeter Corps. The myth makes us believe that Weidinger created the key trumpet however instead he developed his own 5 key trumpet based upon earlier designs. In 1792, Weidinger experimented with the keyed trumpet. Franz Joseph Haydn composed his Concerto in E-Flat Major for Trumpet and Orchestra for Weidinger, the first piece by Haydn developed for a trumpet solo. Johann Nepomuk Hummel also composed a Concerto for Trumpet and Orchestra for Weidinger which was originally written in the key of E Major but more commonly played in the key of E-Flat Major.
