| Bernie Maupin (born August 29, 1940) is a jazz musician who plays the flute, bass clarinet and tenor saxophone. Maupin was born in Detroit, Michigan. He attended the Detroit Institute for Musical Arts in the early 60's. He has appeared with many famous jazz musicians as a sideman, on many memorable records. He provided the atmospheric bass clarinet solos on Miles Davis's Bitches Brew album. He also appeared as part of Herbie Hancock's "Mwandishi" group and appeared on the pianist's album Headhunters. He worked with Herbie Hancock until the early 80's.
