Chris Cheney is the guitarist and lead vocalist in the Australian rock band, The Living End. A talented guitarist, his trademark guitar is a Gretsch White Falcon and he uses mainly distortion and modulation effects.Early lifeChris Cheney attended Jells Park Primary School in Wheelers Hill, in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia and Wheelers Hill Secondary College. He later studied jazz at Box Hill Institute of TAFE.CareerChris began his career with double bassist Scott Owen in the nineties, in a Melbourne cover band, The Runaway Boys.The Living EndIn 1998, Cheney and Owen produced their own material and formed The Living End and released their self-titled album, with success sparked by the youth anthem Prisoner of Society.In 2001, Chris Cheney was involved in a serious car crash on the Great Ocean Road in Victoria. While travelling with his partner Emma to Airey's Inlet, an oncoming car veered into the wrong lane, colliding with Chris' car at 100 km/h. In 2003, after Chris' recovery and with new drummer Andy Strachan, the band made a comeback, releasing One Said to the Other/What Would You Do?. This was followed by heavy touring (including Big Day Out) and a release of their album MODERN ARTillery. In February, 2006, the band released their fourth album, 'State of Emergency'. The album debuted at #1 on the ARIA music charts in Australia. Other performancesChris performed at the 2004 ARIA awards as part of the supergroup The Wrights, featuring members of many other Australian rock bands. In 2005 he recorded some vocals on the song Private School Kid by sole artist Sarah McLeod (previously of Superjesus fame).He also recently performed the song I Fought The Law with Green Day at their December 17 2005 Melbourne concert.
