| Christopher McGregor (24 December 1936 – 26 May 1990), was a South African pianist, bandleader and composer. In 1964 he formed the Blue Notes, with Mongezi Feza on trumpet, Dudu Pukwana on alto saxophone, Nikele Moyake on tenor saxophone, Johnny Dyani on bass, and Louis Moholo on drums. They were obliged to emigrate to Europe, as the mixed-race band constituted a violation of apartheid laws. After settling in England, he formed his Brotherhood of Breath, in which a nucleus of South African musicians were joined by British musicians such as John Surman, Evan Parker, Kenny Wheeler and Marc Charig.
