Christine Guldbrandsen (born 1985 in Bergen, Norway) is a singer who is best-known internationally for being the 2006 Norwegian entrant in the Eurovision Song Contest, and across Scandinavia for her first two albums Surfing in the Air and Moments.

To Finland and Iceland

So far, Christine has released two albums, and she is currently working on her third. The name of her debut album from 2003 was Surfing in the Air and became a huge success in Norway. Due to the success it was soon released in Finland as well. In total the album sold 30,000 copies, which is considered very good for a Norwegian debuting artist. The most memorable song on the CD was the song with the same name, Surfing in the Air, which became a radio hit, and to which she recorded an exotic music video on weather-beaten and evocative costal mountain hill surroundings on the volcanic saga island in the north Atlantic, Iceland.

To follow your own footsteps

Christine Guldbrandsen's "difficult second album", called Moments, was released in December 2004, and didn't quite have the same magical appeal on her fans as her first record. Still, it reached the official Norwegian album chart VG-lista Topp 40. And nevertheless, the song Because of You was played a lot on national radio, especially on P1 which is the most popular Norwegian radio station. Christine's musical expression and style is still inspired by Norwegian and Nordic folk music, though this came a bit clearer to mind on her debut piece. Folk-ballads or folk-pop could be a good description of her music.

Christine has a light, bright voice, and thus she has got comments describing it as angelic or sounding like an angel. She has also been referred to as the next Sissel Kyrkjebø. Right now, Christine Guldbrandsen is busy preparing her appearance and performance at the third and last semi final of Melodi Grand Prix 2006, the Norwegian selection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2006 in Athens, Greece. The Nordic folk song she will sing there, Alvedansen (The dance of elves) - the only of 18 entries with Norwegian lyrics - is a non-typical Grand Prix entry, far from the typical schlager as it is an ethno piece spiced with chant plus fiddle and harmonica play. Thea Tunås Bratteng accompanies her on stage playing the typical Norwegian fiddle instrument hardingfele. Christine won the Bergen semi final easily through a convincing performance and live voice and is thus being considered the biggest favourite in the final line-up, though she has strong competitors in especially Queentastic and Trine Rein.
