Musicians - DJ Screw

DJ Screw, born Robert Earl Davis, Jr. (June 27, 1971 –November 16, 2000), was a central figure in the Houston rap scene. His innovation included the trademark technique of slowing down the basic tracks of a cut when he remixed it. This process is called 'screwing' a song. Slowing down the song was supposed to recreate the effect of recreationally using codeine, also known as sizzurp.

Born in Bastrop, Texas he moved to Houston for opportunities as a rap SFX musican.

His creations are hard to come by legally, but are still available from Screwed Up Records in Houston, Texas.

DJ Screw is well knowen for his 8 Minuet Screwed Remix of Bone Thugs-N-Harmony's Thug Luv Feat. 2Pac.

In 2004, Game Over was a major hit for DJ Screw's protege Lil' Flip.

DJ Screw died of a heart attack in 2000. His cause of death was rumoured to be either a codeine overdose, or the result of long-term buildup of promethazine as a result of chronic sizzurp abuse.
