Debabrata Biswas (Bangla: দেবব্রত বিশ্বাস) is one of the most well known (and controversial) exponents of Rabindra Sangeet. He was born in 1911, when King George V had visited India for the Delhi Durbar and so he was nicknamed George. He is popularly known as George Biswas or George-da. He had written an autobiography entitled "Bratyojoner Ruddhosongeet" (meaning "The Obstructed Songs of the Ostracized Person"). After his death in 1980, noted film-maker Utpalendu Chakraborty had made a documentary film (in 1982) on his life, based on the singer's interviews and footages taken before.

He was also actively associated with the IPTA movement along with others like Salil Chowdhury and Hemant Kumar. He had sung Rabindra Sangeet in some films by Ritwik Ghatak. Apart from that he had also acted in dramas and a few Bengali films including Bhuli nai as a singer-actor.

He used to sketch nicely and most of the times gave sketched autographs. One such signature features himself praying to Tagore with the lyrics of Tagore Surer guru dao go surer diksha (O Lord of Music please initiate me to music). Another autograph shows Tagore hitting a sixer with a cricket bat.
