Franz Stahl was the guitarist of the Washington, DC hardcore band Scream. Along with band Minor Threat, Scream is considered by many to be among the more influential punk bands to emerge from the scene, which spanned the 1980s.

Stahl is the brother of Scream lead singer Peter Stahl, and, along with bassist Skeeter Thompson and drummer Kent Stax, helped to define the punk rock music genre that later spilled over into other genres including the successful alternative rock sound of the early 1990s.

Stahl was also briefly part of Dave Grohl's band Foo Fighters from 1997-1999.
